Widowed researcher David Banner studies bursts of extraordinary strength with his colleague Elaina Marks. A gamma overdose he gives himself, combined with anger, turns him into a green giant. A lab explosion kills Elaina, and reporter Jack McGee's tabloid story leaves Banner officially dead and on the run.
