Paul Stamets

Human astromycologist who helped develop the spore drive and served as its navigator aboard the Discovery during the 2256-57 war, merging tardigrade DNA to do so. He jumped with the ship to the 32nd century in 2258 and was presumed dead by Starfleet. By 3191 he is a commander. Husband of Hugh Culber.

  1. 2256 Stamets and Straal are co-opted by Starfleet to build the spore drive into warship tech; Stamets joins the Discovery. source
  2. 2256 Stamets makes the spore drive viable by linking a tardigrade to it, then replacing it by injecting himself with its DNA. source
  3. 2257 Back from the mirror universe, his control of the spore drive helps force an armistice at Qo'noS; he is promoted to lieutenant commander. source
  4. 2258 Stamets travels with the Discovery to the 32nd century, comatose from injuries, and is presumed dead by Starfleet. source
  5. 3189 Discovery crash lands on the Colony and Stamets is revived and helps restore ship power. source
  6. 3189 Adira Tal develops a way to remove his cybernetic arm augmentations. source
