Comics
Muspelheim is a Ten Realms world of eternal fire, lava and fire pits on the lower tier of Yggdrasil, home to the Fire Demons and the Fire Giant Surtur. It is also counted among the Splinter Realms. Surtur was confined there by Odin, and from it his armies repeatedly tried to invade Midgard and the Nine Worlds, culminating in the War of Burning.

Later Thor was held prisoner there, defeated Surtur, and escaped to Asgard with Skurge help while a fire dragon pursued him. Surtur is described as having died in Ragnarok.
