Comics
Svartalfheim is a heavily wooded Ten Realms world on the middle tier of Yggdrasil, home to the Dark Elves and also to many Dwarves. Its Dark Elf clans are repeatedly torn by war, with Malekith rising to rule, losing power to Queen Alflyse and returning to kill her. It serves as a launch point for schemes against Midgard and Asgard.
Cinematic
Svartalfheim is the Nine Realms home of the Dark Elves, called the Dark World by outsiders and Harudheen by the elves. Its star system is corroded by dark matter and its only visible light comes from a black hole. Bor's army defeated Malekith there in 2988 B.C., leaving it a wasteland. In 2013 it was a battlefield again, and Malekith died there.
