A Soong-type android built by Data in 2366 as his daughter. She chose a Human female form, learned to be social in Ten Forward and the ship's school, and developed emotions. When Starfleet moved to take her for study, her neural net cascaded and she died, her memories passed to Data.

3. 2366 Vice Admiral Haftel tries to take Lal to a Daystrom facility, and the stress triggers a neural cascade failure. source
4. 2366 Lal dies, after which Data copies her memories into his own brain. source
