Kirk, Spock and McCoy are pulled from shore leave when a renegade Vulcan seizes hostages on Nimbus III. He takes over the Enterprise-A and heads for the Great Barrier at the galaxy's centre, seeking a being said to be God, with a Klingon captain in pursuit.
