Obadiah Stane was Howard Stark's business partner and later Tony Stark's second-in-command at Stark Industries. Jealous of Tony, he secretly sold weapons to the Ten Rings and arranged Tony's kidnapping in Afghanistan. After Tony returned, Stane had the Ten Rings executed, built the Iron Monger armor from Tony's design, and died in 2008 fighting Iron Man in Los Angeles.

A ruthless industrialist and chess player who engineers a hostile takeover of Tony Stark's company, renames it Stane International, and builds the Iron Monger armor from Stark's notes. He allies with Madame Masque against Iron Man, loses a final confrontation in New York, and kills himself with a repulsor blast. His son Ezekiel survives him.
