James Rhodes, a US Air Force officer and Tony Stark's close friend, takes the Mark II armor in 2010 and becomes War Machine, later rebranded Iron Patriot. He joins the Avengers after Ultron, backs the Accords and is paralyzed at Leipzig-Halle in 2016. He fights Thanos in Wakanda, travels to the Garden, joins the 2023 Time Heist on Morag, and by 2026 has been replaced by a Skrull impostor.
Comics
A Philadelphia-born Marine pilot who met Tony Stark in Siancong and became his pilot and engineer, then took over as Iron Man during Stark's drinking. After Stark's apparent death he became War Machine, serving with the West Coast Avengers, Force Works, the Initiative and the Secret Avengers. He was killed by Thanos in 2016, revived by Stark, and later worked with Stark Unlimited.
