Dungeon Crawler Carl
Summary
An alien NPC and former crawler, a winged, wolf-headed Pterolykos bard who hosts The Prize Carousel for the production. Hundreds of cycles ago, on the tenth floor of his crawl, he killed Mordecai's brother Uzzi, which is why Mordecai attacks him on sight. Before
The Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook
- Carl's fan box triggers The Prize Carousel in the Royal Court's personal space on the Fourth Floor; Mordecai hurls a chair at Chaco, the system freezes it short of his head and gives Mordecai a seven-day timeout.
The Butcher's Masquerade
- Chaco runs the prize counter in ballroom A of the Butcher's Masquerade on the Sixth Floor, trading prizes for hunter scalps and warning Carl that everyone in the dungeon ends up broken.
- Chaco vanishes along with the three judges the moment Signet breaks the masquerade's peace seal.
This Inevitable Ruin
- Sent to the Ninth Floor as field correspondent for the warlord council, he is knocked out by one punch from the orc king Stalwart, and Odette takes over the broadcast.
- Quasar tells Carl that the one decent exit deal on offer exists because this is Chaco's last season, and offers his host job to Carl and Donut.
A Parade of Horribles
- The AI makes Chaco Grand Master of the Eleventh Floor parade; he announces the rules, then breaks down on air, saying this was meant to be his last season, while Mordecai says he hopes Chaco dies.
- Riding the subjugated goddess Lamashtu, Chaco stumbles through the AI's script, and the AI tears off both his wings and takes over the narration through the fleshmancer Grigori; Carl heals him with a scroll.
- After the parade Chaco blinks away, and Victory asks her staff to bring him in for a debrief.
